Bupkis

Origin

The delightfully dismissive word "bupkis" waltzed into American English straight from Yiddish, where it originated as "bubkes" or "bobkes." Its literal translation is rather unglamorous: "goat droppings" or "horse manure." This earthy, visceral image immediately conveys the utter worthlessness or insignificance of something. Gaining traction in the mid-20th century, especially through its adoption in comedy and informal speech, "bupkis" became a wonderfully expressive and common way to declare that one has received or possesses absolutely nothing of value.
