Origin
The word "propagate" stems directly from the Latin propagare, meaning "to set forward, extend, spread, or multiply." Its earliest uses in English, from the 15th century onward, were deeply rooted in agriculture and biology. Think of a farmer skillfully taking a cutting from a strong vine, burying it carefully in fresh soil, and watching it take root to create a new, vibrant plant. This act of multiplying life, of spreading a single entity into many, provided the perfect metaphor.
