'In My Opinion' was a ubiquitous phrase, a crucial disclaimer when sharing subjective thoughts that could easily be misinterpreted as facts in text-based conversations. To save precious keystrokes and time, this longer phrase was quickly truncated into the neat, three-letter initialism, IMO.
